Mount the wind vane in a clearly visible location, ideally at eye level or slightly above – this allows you to easily read the wind direction from the cockpit. Ensure the wind vane can flutter freely and is not obstructed by lines or other equipment. In strong winds, the vane may flutter loudly – this is normal and indicates that it is working. Occasionally clean the wind vane with fresh water to remove salt deposits. The wind vane also makes an excellent and practical gift for sailors!
The wind indicator is an aid for indicating wind direction and does not replace professional anemometers. In very strong winds (over force 7), the indicator may flutter loudly – this is normal, but can be noisy. The material is UV-resistant, but may fade after years of intense sun exposure – this does not affect its function. Remove the wind indicator when not in use for extended periods or during the winter to prolong its lifespan. Regularly check that the attachment is secure, especially after long sailing trips.
