The shroud wind indicator is a practical wind indicator that is easily attached to the shrouds and shows you the current wind direction at all times. Supplied in pairs in red and green, it allows for quick orientation for optimal sail trimming.
| Item No. | execution | Suitable for | material |
|---|---|---|---|
| 20-WINDSBAW | Red/green pairs | 5 mm wire | Dacron and plastic |
The wind indicators simply clip onto the shrouds – no tools, no complicated fastenings. The clip is designed to hold securely but can also be easily removed when needed.
Red for port: Traditionally, the red wind indicator is placed on the port side (left side).
Green for starboard: The green wind indicator marks the starboard side (right side).
Quick orientation: The color coding allows for immediate identification and facilitates communication on board.
Dacron flag: The proven sailcloth material is lightweight, UV-resistant and reacts sensitively to wind.
Plastic clip: Robust and weather-resistant, holds securely on 5 mm wire.
Durable: The material combination is optimized for maritime use and can withstand even harsh conditions.
Optimal position: Mounted on the shrouds, the wind indicators are clearly visible from the cockpit.
Free airflow: The shrouds are located in an undisturbed airflow - the wind indicator is precise.
Two-sided information: With indicators on both sides, you always have the wind direction in view, no matter which side you are standing on.
Mount the wind indicators at eye level or slightly above – this ensures optimal visibility from the cockpit. Traditionally, the red flag goes on the port (left) side, and the green on the starboard (right) side. Before mounting, check that your shrouds are 5 mm in diameter – this is standard on most yachts. The Dacron flags should be able to flutter freely; ensure that no lines or other equipment obstruct their movement. In strong winds, the flags may flap loudly – this is normal and indicates that they are working. Occasionally clean the clips with fresh water to remove salt deposits. The wind indicators also make an excellent gift for sailors!
The wind indicators are designed for 5 mm wire . With other diameters, the hold may be compromised. After installation, check that the clips are secure but the flags can still rotate freely. In very strong winds (over 7 Beaufort), the flags may flutter considerably – this is normal, but can be noisy. The wind indicators are an aid for indicating wind direction but do not replace professional anemometers. Dacron is UV-resistant but may fade after years of intense sun exposure – this does not affect their function. Remove the wind indicators when not in use for extended periods or during the winter to prolong their lifespan.
You will receive a pair of wind indicators – one red and one green. Each consists of a plastic clip for 5 mm wire and a Dacron flag.
