Why use special splicing tape?

Precision is crucial when splicing modern, high-performance rope. Conventional adhesive tape is often too thick, too stiff, or leaves adhesive residue. D-SPLICER splicing tape is specifically designed for the demands of splicing.

Application areas

  • Securing rope ends during splicing
  • Preventing fraying during cutting to length
  • Marking splice positions
  • Temporary securing of strands
  • Hollow splicing work on Dyneema and Spectra
  • Splicing work on all braided ropes
  • Professional rigging work

How to use splicing tape

Before cutting: Wrap the tape tightly around the point where you want to cut the rope. Then cut through the middle of the tape – this will keep the rope end fixed and prevent it from freezing.

During splicing: Use the tape to secure rope ends that will be pulled through the braid. The smooth surface makes it easier to pull them through.

Markings: Use the white tape to mark splice positions - clearly visible and easy to remove.

After splicing: The tape can be removed without leaving any residue or adhesive on the rope.

Advantages over normal adhesive tape

Thin and flexible: Regular adhesive tape is often too thick and stiff for precise splicing. D-SPLICER tape is extremely thin and conforms perfectly to the rope.

Smooth surface: The smooth surface glides through tight weaves, while rough tape would get stuck.

Residue-free: Regular adhesive tape often leaves sticky residue on high-performance fibers. Splicing tape can be removed cleanly.

Gentle: The soft material protects sensitive fibers such as Dyneema or Spectra.

Especially suitable for

Dyneema and Spectra: These smooth, high-performance fibers are difficult to fix with ordinary adhesive tape. Splice tape adheres securely without damaging the fibers.

Tight weaves: Thin, flexible tape is essential for modern, tightly woven ropes.

Professional work: Special splicing tape is essential for clean, precise splicing results.

đź’ˇ Tip

Always wrap the tape tightly and evenly around the rope – this is the best way to prevent fraying. With very smooth fibers like Dyneema, you can slightly overlap the tape for extra hold. For hollow splicing: Tape the rope end with the tape – wrap it conically so it slides more easily through the braid. Store the roll in a dry place, away from direct sunlight, to maintain its adhesive strength. A tip for when you're on the go: Wrap some tape around a pencil or marker – that way you always have some handy in your pocket. The 19 mm width is ideal for most sheets and halyards between 8 and 14 mm in diameter.

⚠️ Important

Splicing tape is an aid for splicing work and not intended for permanent fixing. Remove the tape completely after splicing is finished. For very delicate or coated fibers, test the tape first in an inconspicuous area. Store the roll at normal room temperature – extreme heat or cold can impair its adhesive strength. The tape is not UV-resistant for permanent applications – use it only temporarily during splicing. After prolonged storage, the outermost layer may lose some of its adhesive strength – simply remove it and use the fresh tape underneath.

Ideal for

  • Professional riggers and riggers
  • Sailmakers and ropemakers
  • Regatta sailors with their own rigging
  • Boat builders and shipyards
  • Ambitious sailors who splice their own sheets
  • All those who regularly perform hollow splicing work

Perfect complement

D-SPLICER splicing tape is the ideal complement to D-SPLICER splicing needles, splicing fids, soft fids, and other splicing tools. Together, they form the perfect set for professional splicing work on modern, high-performance ropes.

Economically

At 66 meters long, the roll provides ample material for numerous splicing jobs. The tape is economical – you only need a few centimeters for a typical whipping or splice marking. One roll is sufficient for many projects.
