What is BAY15d? BAY15d is a bayonet socket with a 15mm diameter and two contacts of different heights. The "d" stands for "dual" (two contacts). This socket is a standard in marine lighting.
Bayonet fitting: The bayonet fitting allows for quick and secure lamp changes. Simply press in, turn, and the lamp is firmly in place.
Two contacts: The two contacts at different heights ensure the correct alignment of the lamp when inserted. This guarantees that the lamp is always positioned correctly.
Bright light output: Halogen lamps offer a bright, clear light output. They are brighter than conventional incandescent lamps at the same wattage.
Long lifespan: Halogen lamps have a longer lifespan than standard incandescent bulbs. The halogen gas inside the bulb extends the lifespan of the filament.
Constant brightness: Halogen lamps retain their brightness throughout their entire lifespan. They do not dimmer like conventional incandescent bulbs.
Instant full brightness: Halogen lamps reach their full brightness immediately after being switched on - important for safety at sea.
12V or 24V: Choose the voltage according to your onboard electrical system. 12V is standard on most smaller boats, while 24V is often used on larger yachts.
10W or 25W: The wattage determines the brightness. 25W bulbs are brighter and are used for larger boats or higher visibility requirements. 10W bulbs are suitable for smaller boats or stern lights.
Check compatibility: Check the specifications on your old bulb or in the instructions for your position light. Always use the same voltage and wattage as the original bulb.
Step 1 - Open the light: Open the housing of your position light. With the HELLA 2984 series, this can be done without tools thanks to the quick-release fastener.
Step 2 - Remove the old lamp: Gently push in the old lamp, turn it counterclockwise and pull it out.
Step 3 - Insert new bulb: Insert the new halogen bulb, press it in slightly and turn it clockwise until it clicks into place.
Step 4 - Check function: Close the housing and check the function of the light before running it again.
Tip: Do not touch halogen lamps by the glass bulb with your bare fingers. Grease from your fingers can damage the lamp. Use a clean cloth or gloves.
Series 2984: The BAY15d halogen lamps fit perfectly into the HELLA Series 2984. This series uses 12V/25W or 24V/25W for side and top lights, and 12V/10W or 24V/10W for rear lights.
Other series: The BAY15d lamps are also compatible with other HELLA series and many other manufacturers that use the BAY15d base.
