Hollow splicing is the modern method for creating splice connections in braided rope. The rope end is pulled through the hollow interior of the braid using a fid, resulting in an extremely strong yet flexible connection.
Lightweight and handy: Aluminium fids are significantly lighter than stainless steel versions and allow fatigue-free work even during longer splicing operations.
Smooth surface: The polished aluminum surface glides smoothly through the mesh, protecting the sensitive high-performance fibers.
Precise fit: Each fid is precisely matched to the respective rope diameter for optimal results.
Always choose a fid that matches the outer diameter of your rope. A fid that is too small makes the job more difficult, while one that is too large can damage the braid. For GLEISTEIN ropes, you will find the recommended fid size in the product description of the respective rope. For optimal results, we recommend lightly moistening the fid with soapy water before first use – this makes it much easier to pull through tight braids.
Splicing fids are specifically designed for hollow splicing of braided rope . They are not suitable for laid (twisted) rope. Always ensure the fid is threaded through the rope in the direction of the braid and never use force. When used correctly, the fid will glide smoothly through the braid. High-performance fibers such as Dyneema or Spectra require special care – always follow the rope manufacturer's splicing instructions.
